“I’ll pay you five million dollars and you marry me. You go on that abysmal reality show with me, I get your recording contract all squared away and we separate after that. During that time, you play doting wife, I sleep with whoever I like, and if you’re lucky, it will be you at some point.”When billionaire producer Cayden “Cash” Coltrane speaks these words to me, I’m in shock. Not exactly the proposal you dream of as a little girl from a small town. But he’s being slammed in the New York media when his latest victim on the long list of high profile women he’s dated and destroyed tells the public what a scumbag he is.Now I’m supposed to be the one to help him clean up his notorious playboy image. An innocent singer who’s never had a more romantic adventure than a hot kiss. But when you’re single, broke, and desperately looking to get a record deal, you do crazy things.Such as fake-marrying a man who is as intimidating as he is devastatingly handsome. So it’s all sunshine and rainbows when we pretend to be Mr. and Mrs. Right on television.Yet one thing is for sure:I will never fall for Mr. Grumpalicious in real life.At least, that’s what I thought.I shouldn’t want him, but when he touches me, the butterflies in my stomach go crazy.I should tell him to leave me alone, but when he opens his heart, I can’t turn him away. And then I give him the gift of being my first. This whole deal turns out to be a disaster in the making, with a whole lot of enemies-to-lovers-style complications and is-this-fake-or-real questions.Speaking of complications: It seems like the media found out about our sweet little wedding lie. Would now be a good time to tell Cayden that my morning sickness is anything but fake?

I am on the fence about this one... It definitely wasnt the worst, but I honestly didnt connect with or even really like the mcs. The storyline was a good idea, but the delivery fell flat. There were few type-os, but the writing style was a miss for me. The main conflict with the ex just disappeared after it had been one of the main driving plotlines throughout the story as the reason that Cash even needed to convince Genni into this sort of fake but not really relationship. There was no real resolution or smooth transition to close that issue. The conversations were a little stiff and the attempt at using modern slang in conversations and within the writing itself actually made the writing feel awkward and less organic. Also, the transitions between scenes and conversations needed to be smoother. The mc, Cash, came across as a sleazy, unlikable manwhore who was easily led around by his manparts. I love a good alphahole/antihero and I have no problems with characters having a colorful past, but this guy was so cringe worthy that it put me off an I ended up skimming the intimate scenes as a result. It was definitely a wet blanket for the romance. The fmc, Genni, was all over the place. She seriously got on my nerves more than anything. It was like I wanted to like her sometimes, but what she said and how she acted was just off putting. Sometimes she was strong and convicted and sometimes she was a clueless pushover. The author is trying to portray her as a strong woman who knows herself and has convictions, but it just does NOT work. She actually comes off as a c@ck tease who says one thing and does another. She was not a well written character. Her decisions on several occasions did not make any sense and did not feel organic to her character. Especially at the end. Like why tf did she feel the need to approach HIS parents? That was seriously not her place and it was just weird. In fact, all of the scenes that involved his parents were completely unnecessary and should have been left out. They should have stayed as back story to explain Cash's character. The author also, unfortunately, seems to inject too much of her own personal and political views into this book and the story suffered for it. We have a self proclaimed feminist who is anything but. There is a free spirited artist who has groupie/ trans/ bi, gay/ poly friends who are having an orgy love fest at the beginning of the story. The male MC is weak and ineffectual and not likable at all (because in this day and age we should all hate men). I get that the author is trying to portray open mindedness and acceptance and is trying to normalize these things, but it just isnt done well and it isn't important to the story. Then there is the whole fatherless theme... How children are affected growing up in a fatherless home is the main underlying theme of the story, but the way it is done is not thought provoking, it is preachy. Broken homes is a very valid issue that everyone can agree is important. Bravo to the author for wanting to shed light on it. Unfortunately, the author beats you over the head with it while also injecting all of these other "woke" themes instead of allowing you to experience the story and allowing you to draw your own conclusions. This is a textbook case of WAY too much tell and not enough show. Authors should NEVER ever tell a reader how their story should make the reader feel. They should be able to effectively communicate their message through the story, itself. It constantly pulled me out of the story and made the book feel passively preachy instead of emotional and thought provoking. I did finish the book, even though I skimmed some. I didnt hate everything about this book. It had the bones, it just came up short on delivery. There was enough there that I think I might give this author one more shot just in case this book was a one off. This one was just a miss for me, but others may like it and I encourage you to read it. Also, kudos to the author for having the courage to put her material out there for public consumption.
